Shifting Echoes is part of a new body of work by Duarte Perry that marks a shift in his approach to painting. In this series, the human figure begins to dissolve — not as an act of erasure, but as a gesture of fading. The forms remain, but appear blurred, absorbed by the surrounding space, as if memory and presence were slowly merging.
Created with layered washes of acrylic and mixed materials on linen, the works evoke surfaces that feel both delicate and weathered. There is an intentional vagueness in the outlines — a refusal of clarity that mirrors the fragmented, emotional nature of memory.
Rather than depicting absence, these paintings hold onto something in the process of vanishing. They are not about loss, but about what remains — the echo, the trace, the shimmer after contact.
